We recently celebrated my last babies FIRST birthday and combined it with a little celebration for her big sis who shares her birthday month. When in the planning stages of their party I really wanted to do something simple that would appeal to all of their little toddler friends with an Autumn theme in mind. When I think of October I think pumpkin everything, hayrides, comfort food and crisp cool weather. Well, this party captured all of that (except the cooler weather!) Unfortunately it was blazing hot and we were not quite wrapped in blankets sipping cider on our hayrides as I had imagined but hey, that's California for ya! I still think it turned out wonderfully and the kids certainly enjoyed themselves. Scroll down for all of Meadow and Kinley's Farmstand Party deets.... I chose THE FARMSTEAD as our party venue. It is so quaint and rustically sweet and was the perfect spot for a toddler friendly gathering (the big kids loved it too). The Farmstead is locally own owned and operated and they sell everything they grow. Check out their Market Days if you get a chance. The U-pick fields are open seasonally and you can also visit and feed their adorable farm animals (the piglets are my favorite). Jade and the rest of the staff were so friendly and accommodating, we were delighted that they were willing to host us. I don't know about you- but to me, food is EVERYTHING. I literally squealed when my friend Linda over at The Organic Kitchen was willing to collaborate for my girls birthday and create some AMAZING new fall inspired recipes to be served at the event. Not only is she an extremely talented chef and food blogger I look up to her as a fellow mom of SIX. That's right... between the two of us we have twelve children! Needless to say she's got this whole parenting thing down and is now on to mastering the art of Grandmothering when she's not whipping up delicacies in her gorgeous kitchen. I really do love all of her creations and chances are, if you've ever been to my home for a meal or had one delivered by me the recipe most likely came from one of her cookbooks.
Linda brought two cakes that are seriously the best two fall inspired cakes you will ever taste... no really, they are. The first was an Apple Spice Cake that is so moist and just the right amount of sweet. I recently served this at another gathering I had as well and I can attest to the fact that this not only tastes amazing but it's simple enough that even the "baking challenged" like myself can't screw it up ;) Keeping with the fall theme a Savory Pumpkin Soup, Pear and Blackberry Salad (with a lemon poppyseed dressing), along with fresh bread were also served. As well as freshly picked strawberry baskets and pumpkin shaped PB&J's for the kiddos. Last but certainly not least... The Organic Kitchen's Chocolate Salted Caramel Cake literally.. well... took the cake! Sooooo sooo good. I'm hoping this cake alone made up for the fact that all my adult guests were melting on a not so blustery fall day ;)
An extra special thank you to my dear friend, Rachelle for putting together this gorgeous floral garland for me just two weeks after giving birth to her second baby. If you aren't lucky enough to have a Rachelle in your life (sorry) you can put together a simpler version of this on your own to dress up your food table. The kids had a blast feeding the animals and taking hayrides through the pumpkin fields. A big THANK YOU to the Farmstead for setting this all up for us! Word on the street is during select days this fall you can stop in with your kiddos for a fun hayride yourself! Pick some pumpkins, feed the animals and make a fun little day of it. Stop in and check out their market on your way out. And just like that.. she's ONE! All in all I would say my babies birthday was a success. Thanks so much to all their little buds who came out to celebrate with us. We were so grateful to have you all there and hope you enjoyed their farmstand party as much as we did! This milestone was particularly emotional for me... as a mother who has been in the "baby" stages for nearly a decade it's hard knowing this is my last but I'm looking forward to the next chapter of our lives and all of the amazing experiences and milestones to come. Cheers!
